Yellow, white or rose gold: which suits you?

All three colours of gold contain the same precious metal. What changes is the mix of alloys, and with it the feel of every piece. Choosing between them is less about trends and more about you.

Start with your undertone

Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in daylight. Greenish veins usually mean warm undertones, which glow next to yellow and rose gold. Blue or purple veins suggest cool undertones, which white gold and platinum suit. If you can’t decide, you are probably neutral, and you can wear all three.

Yellow gold: the timeless classic

Yellow gold is the traditional colour of fine jewellery and suits vintage-inspired designs and bold sculptural pieces. In 18ct it has a buttery richness that flatters olive and deeper skin tones especially well. It is also the lowest-maintenance colour: there is no plating to renew.

White gold: modern and bright

White gold makes diamonds look whiter and brighter, which is why it is often chosen for engagement rings. Remember that its mirror-white colour comes from rhodium plating, which needs renewing every year or two on a ring worn every day.

Rose gold: romantic and robust

The copper that gives rose gold its blush also makes it the toughest of the three. It flatters fair and warm skin alike, pairs well with morganite and pink sapphires, and develops a deeper, warmer patina over time.

Can you mix them?

Absolutely, and stylists encourage it. Mixing metals looks deliberate when there is a link between them: a two-tone ring that brings the colours together, or a repeated pattern such as yellow-white-yellow across a stack. Our two-tone rings are designed to make that easy.

Think long term
