Our Dealer’s Notice under the Hallmarking Act 1973, and how we source gold and gemstones responsibly.
As a dealer in precious metal articles, usgoldapp complies with the Hallmarking Act 1973. It is an offence to describe an article as being wholly or partly gold, silver, platinum or palladium unless it is hallmarked by a UK assay office or an approved convention hallmark, or is exempt by weight.
The weight thresholds below which hallmarking is not compulsory are:
| Metal | Exempt below | Standard fineness marks |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | 1 g | 375, 585, 750, 916, 990, 999 |
| Platinum | 0.5 g | 850, 900, 950, 999 |
| Palladium | 1 g | 500, 950, 999 |
| Silver | 7.78 g | 800, 925, 958, 999 |
Learn how to read the marks in our guide: How to read a UK hallmark.
Every precious-metal piece we sell that is above the exemption weight carries a full UK hallmark: the sponsor’s mark, the millesimal fineness mark and the assay office mark. The fineness of each piece is stated in its product specifications.
All natural diamonds we sell are bought from suppliers that participate in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme and follow the World Diamond Council System of Warranties. Laboratory-grown diamonds are always clearly identified as such, and graded diamonds are supplied with their grading report.
Many coloured gemstones are routinely treated to improve their appearance. We disclose known treatments in our product information and on request, and our care plans take common treatments into account.
We are committed to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chain. We expect our suppliers to meet the same standards and to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Concerns can be raised confidentially at [email protected].
