Why every piece needs an annual professional check

You service your car and see the dentist. Your engagement ring, worn every day for years, deserves the same care. A professional check is quick and inexpensive, and it is the best way to avoid losing a stone.

What happens during a check

1

Setting inspection

Every claw, bezel and pavé bead is checked under magnification for wear, lifting or cracks.

2

Shank & clasp check

Thin areas on ring bands, worn jump rings and weak clasp springs are spotted before they fail.

3

Professional clean

Steam or ultrasonic cleaning, where the stones are suitable, reaches places a toothbrush can’t.

4

Polish & finish

Light surface scratches are polished out. White gold can be re-rhodium-plated to restore its bright colour.

Signs you shouldn’t wait

  • A stone that moves, rattles or catches on clothing
  • A claw that looks flattened, thin or lifted
  • A ring that has gone out of round, or a band thinner at the bottom
  • A clasp that does not snap shut with confidence
